This bat hunts at night, flying fast and level just above or below the tree canopy, darting to catch moths and other insects. They live in tall wet forest and coastal vegetation. They roost in male or female groups of 3 to 36, in tree hollows, under loose bark or in unused buildings. During winter they hibernate.

In December, females give birth to one single young that suckles in a membrane pouch. Loss of forest and old tree habitat is their greatest threat.
